# mysql -u root mysql
mysql> UPDATE user SET Password=PASSWORD(‘newpassword’) where USER=’root’;
mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
mysql> quit

# /etc/init.d/mysql restart
# mysql -uroot -p
